Windows are a Key Feature of a Property
The windows are one of the key features in any property and are extremely important. The three main purposes of windows are to allow natural light into the property, keep the heat generated inside a property and prevent intruders from entering a property. Originally windows were used purely for functional purposes however as with many things over time they became more elaborate and ornate and were used a sign of wealth. There was even a time in history when there was a tax on glass and therefore large windows signified status and wealth. Also single glazed glass is a poor insulator and therefore much of the heat generated in a house with large single glazed windows would be lost through the windows. Therefore only the rich cold afford to heat houses with large windows.
However times and technology has moved on and modern windows are built using double glazing meaning large windows are now available to the masses. As the name suggests double glazing consists of two glazed panels which are then joined together using a spacer bar and then the whole unit is sealed. It is actually the gap between the two panes of glass created by the spacer bar which acts as an insulator. This not only helps to reduce the amount of heat lost from your home considerably but also makes the windows much tougher and therefore more secure and also helps to prevent outside noises from entering your home.
As the windows in our homes are such an important feature it is important that they are well maintained. Traditional timber framed windows need to sanded and painted every few years to prevent them from rotting and warping. This can be a costly and time consuming process. However again technology has come to the rescue and invented uPVC, uPVC windows require far less maintenance than timber framed windows just cleaning them from time to time with a suitable detergent will keep them looking as good as new for many years to come.
